Mazak Laser Cutting Conditions: Why Most Emergency Calls Are Avoidable

Here’s a sentence that has made more than one production manager unhappy with me: most Mazak laser cutting emergencies are self-inflicted. It sounds harsh, but I don’t mean operators are careless. I mean the emergency usually started as a small check that got skipped because the calendar said “run it now.”

If that were a criticism, it wouldn’t help anybody. But it’s actually good news: most of these failures are preventable, and you don’t need a crystal ball. You need a habit of checking the boring things before the interesting deadline gets close.

No one says “just run it” after the first bad part. They say it before the first bad part. The most expensive phrase in fabricating is “just run it.” The cheapest is “let me check first.”
